Regarded by many as Canada’s Most Beautiful Lake; Moraine Lake has some of the most stunning views and you will ever experience! The glacial waters are famously blue, and the shores provide access to a diverse range of hikes with spectacular sights.
The road to Moraine Lake is closed to cars during the summer seasons so, only shuttles and buses are allowed to drive there. This boring, crowded and gas-fueled journey probably doesn’t interest those of you who have found your way to this page in the hopes of cycling your way to the lake - luckily, we are here to help!
This package will allow you to pick up your bike and equipment just meters away from the start of the closed road, as well as drop them off at the same location or, finish your ride in Banff (an extra 55km or ~2hrs riding). The ride is mostly uphill to the lake where you can lock up your bike and explore the various hikes and activities or stop by the cafe for refreshments.
The ride from the base of the road to the lake is 13km (8 miles) each way. Normally taking around 1 hour there, and 30 minutes back.
PLEASE NOTE: This ride is unguided and therefore not for inexperienced riders.
We also offer bespoke corporate Moraine Lake guided ride experiences with lunch included! Please email info@banffcycle.com to enquire.

Moraine lake package FAQ’S
What should I bring with me?
We recommend bringing the following:
water bottle
sun screen
sunglasses
rain jacket or shell, mountain weather can be unpredictable !
warm layer(s) and/or gloves depending on the weather
If you don’t have one or more of these things, they are all available for purchase at our shop.
Can I pick up my e-bike early or keep it after the tour?
Bikes may be available for early pick up through special request - please email info@banffcycle.com. Bikes must be returned to the pick-up location by 3pm or, to our shop in Banff before close. If you would like to do this, you have the choice of riding them back to the shop (55km’s) or taking a bus back.
Can my kid(s) / teen(s) come?
Yes! As long as your child is tall enough to ride their own e-bike (minimum height 4'10" / 147 cm) they are welcome to join this tour.
If your child is too short or young to join us on their own e-bike, we are happy to organise this as a private tour where you can bring a bike attachment or your kids can join on kids bikes. Contact us for details and pricing.
Can I do this tour but on a regular bike instead of an e-bike?
In our experience, we have found it works best for everybody to be on e-bikes, so that the group stays together. The e-bikes have 5 different levels of assist, so you can turn the assist down or off if you want to get more of a workout.
That said, if you are a strong and regular cyclist that typically averages at least 20-25 km/hr (12-15 mph) on your rides and feels comfortable riding for 2 hours, we can also arrange alternative bikes. Contact us for pricing and to book.
What happens if the weather is bad on the day of our ride? Can I get a refund?
Our rentals go ahead rain or shine. As the old adage goes: “there’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing!”
In general, Banff is a relatively dry place. It is rare for us to get sustained rain for an entire day. More often, if the forecast calls for rain we get short rain squalls that move through. That said, mountain weather is famously unpredictable!
If you are concerned, we always offer a full 100% refund on cancellations at least 24 hours in advance, we can also transfer your tour to another day (pending availability).
If the weather is truly terrible on the day of your ride, ie. snow or non-stop rain, then we also provide 100% refund at our discretion.
